Fractional Legal Help for the Bay Area Businesses

LawStaff Group places video-interviewed fractional general counsel, contract attorneys, paralegals, contract administrators and legal assistants with businesses and law firms in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, on fractional, contract, temp-to-hire or direct-hire terms.

The Bay Area is the center of the venture-backed startup world, and most startups don't need a full-time general counsel until well after their Series A. Fractional counsel gives founders senior judgment on financings, SaaS contracts, equity and privacy at the stage they actually need it.

Serving San Francisco, Oakland, Palo Alto, San Jose and the Peninsula. Remote-first, with on-site help when you need it.

How It Works

How a LawStaff Search Runs

A LawStaff recruiter screens every candidate: interview, skills, references, bar admissions for attorneys and a recorded video interview. We bill by the hour: on fractional and contract work you pay one hourly rate for the hours you approve, covering the professional's pay and our fee, and we quote it for every candidate before you interview.

Common Questions

Fractional Counsel in the Bay Area

How do I hire a fractional general counsel in the Bay Area?
Call LawStaff Group or place a job order with the practice area, hours per week and jurisdiction. A recruiter sends you a short list of video-interviewed attorneys with their rates, and the one you choose works for you on our payroll.
Do fractional lawyers in the Bay Area need to be licensed in California?
For advice on California law or appearances in California courts, generally yes. Many states also let lawyers admitted elsewhere register as in-house counsel for a single employer, and the rules vary. We match you with counsel admitted where your work requires.
Can I hire a part-time paralegal, contract administrator or legal assistant in the Bay Area?
Yes. We place video-interviewed paralegals, contract administrators and legal assistants part-time, on contract, temp-to-hire or permanently. They work under the direction of your attorneys or legal team.
How much does fractional counsel cost in the Bay Area?
Rates depend on experience and practice area. We bill by the hour: on fractional and contract work you pay one hourly rate for the hours you approve, covering the professional's pay and our fee, and we quote it for every candidate before you interview. Our Legal Salary Guide shows what legal professionals are asking to be paid.
Do I have to be in the Bay Area to work with fractional counsel?
No. Much fractional and contract work is remote, with on-site time when the work calls for it.
